Grandad’s Island author and illustrator held a book launch for his second book in Walthamstow, London last week and I was invited along to photograph the event. The book launch was held at a wonderful Swedish cafe – Bygga Bo, a really cool Scandinavian slice of delight which not only had the most amazing food on, but sold Scandinavian furniture, clothes and toys!
Benji Davies is an illustrator and animation director and and this is the second book he has written and illustrated. His first book – The Storm Whale, was shortlisted for the Books Trust best Book Awards, and won the inaugral Oscar’s First Book Prize in 2014.
Grandad’s Island is so beautifully written and illustrated and appeals to both children and adults alike. My son Jack, aged 6, has really fallen for this book and I love reading it to him – even though I have had to read it twice every night (this is a first, Jack normally want’s lots of different stories, so this is a definite testament to Benji’s skill at capturing children’s imagination!).
It has already received great acclaim, being featured on The Sunday Times book review and also on Picturebook Makers website, this book is sure to be a winner in many ways. The book has been published by Simon And Schuster in the UK.
Benni’s lovely wife, Nina, is also a creative genius who takes unloved clothing items and designs and sculpts them into masterpieces. her work can be viewed on her site Enienay, and also purchased every weekend from her stall at Spitalfields Market.
